Along pretty Cotham Road you'll find Juniper - a relaxing retreat away from the hubbub of the city centre and a truly delightful restaurant offering exciting seasonal food. We were warmly greeted by chef Sami and her friendly team; and soon after we were seated at a cosy window table, a steady stream of diners began arriving, eager to sample the spring tasting menu.

Both the tasting and the à la carte menus offer varied dishes that will appeal to carnivores, pescatarians and vegetarians alike. Sami's cleverly constructed dishes not only take into account the seasons and local produce but are thoughtfully created to add a little fun to proceedings. A starter of Jamaican lamb curry with sticky coconut rice, mango dressing and unusual spicy banana coleslaw demonstrated Juniper's quirky side. My own starter of grilled halloumi with aubergine purée and chickpea and cranberry relish looked pretty as a picture and was composed of perfectly matched flavours - light with earthy, sweet with salty. Sirloin of beef followed, rosy and juicy and cooked exactly to taste along with creamy, garlicky mushrooms and a stack of fat fluffy chips. My main course of salmon with spring greens and buttery Jersey Royals was fresh and delicious. Although each plate is carefully balanced and exquisitely presented, dishes at Juniper are hearty and satisfying. But take note: desserts are just too good to pass up. Sami's Key lime pie is a family recipe and makes for the perfect finale - this pie is light as air and served with a tangy lime confit, cool creme fraiche and a dainty chocolate biscuit
