The Jersey Lily
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Situated on Bristol’s famous Whiteladies Road, The Jersey Lily is a bustling local pub serving top-notch food and drink. Unassuming from the outside, it would be easy to miss this local gem amongst the plethora of options in the area. Those in the know however, would advise you not to pass up an opportunity to see what’s inside.
The evening we visited, the pub was pleasantly full with patrons both young and old, as well as friendly dogs. The atmosphere is jovial and relaxed, enhanced by welcoming, chatty staff. The bar boasts an impressive 13 varieties of gin, including the delicious locally distilled Six O’clock gin I sampled. My partner tried a smooth, malty Wickwar Brewery cask ale, and there’s ample choice for cider fans. The beer garden is the perfect place to enjoy a refreshing beverage on a sunny afternoon.
The menu is a masterclass in perfectly executed pub classics, all made from fresh, local ingredients. We started our meal with flavoursome mushroom bruschetta, and perfectly crisp beer-battered cod goujons served with homemade tartare sauce. I followed with chicken, bacon and leek pie complete with glossy, golden puff pastry. My partner’s main course of sausages and mash was a triumph; the pork and apple sausages were succulent and packed with flavour, while the mashed potato was light and creamy. We ended with chocolate brownie served with fresh strawberries and ice cream, and lemon tart complemented by sharp raspberries.
Every Thursday evening The Jersey Lily showcases Bristol’s talented acoustic musicians, alongside two-for-one cocktails. What better excuse could you need?
