Tucked away at the end of a small but busy cul-de-sac in Clifton Village is one of Bristol's culinary institutions. The Primrose café opened in 1993 as a small establishment with a big focus on good, home-cooked food. This ethos paid off and, despite the humble rickety furniture and limited space, hungry customers flocked to the café and the business expanded upwards and outwards. It now seats (decidedly more comfortably) up to 60 people across two floors and a quaint outdoor area.

Virtually everything is homemade, with local ingredients often featuring, and you can be sure of a warm welcome from a team of friendly and efficient staff. The daily-changing menu reflects the seasons and the chefs concentrate on using sustainable produce, cooked with care and imagination. The emphasis is on Mediterranean-style cooking with a selection of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes always available. Breakfast is served all day and lunchtime boasts a variety of delicious specials. Don't miss out on Sunday brunch - it's as popular now as it always has been. By night the cosy café transforms into a snug and informal neighbourhood bistro, serving refined dishes such as confit leg of wild duck with beetroot, ginger and orange, as well as a fine selection of wines. Recognised by The Good Food Guide for its adherence to the 'slow food' movement, the Primrose café & Bistro is more than just an eatery - it's a good cause that you simply must support.
