Bauhinia, named after the national flower of Hong Kong, is a Pan Asian bar restaurant tucked away in fashionable Clifton Village. The darkly stylish décor - pistachio green leather furniture, oriental flowers and candles - create a funky and intimate environment in which to enjoy a drink at the bar or explore the diverse and exciting culinary options.

The menu displays a mix of Japanese, Singaporean, Thai and Malaysian influences. A range of 'small eats' include chilli salt squid (£4.80) and guo tie dumplings stuffed with pork (£4). The main menu provides a choice of noodles, salads, curries and rice dishes and there is also a specials menu of seasonal food which changes regularly. The laksa lemak was a spicy coconut broth containing vermicelli and tiger prawns and garnished with mint and cucumber (£8.50). The Thai red curry was made with barbequed duck breast, fresh pineapple and coconut cream (£8.70). The menu is varied and reflects the ideas and influences of the owner.

Even the desserts have an Asian twist with refreshing home-made ice creams and the firecrackers - deep fried pastry rolls filled with chocolate, dates and oranges (both £3.90).

Bauhinia is independently owned with a winning mix of personal service, consistently high quality food and a varied menu in an unpretentiously trendy setting
