Caribbean Croft has become a staple restaurant among the locals of Bristol. Bold, flavoursome dishes cooked from the soul using family recipes have diners coming back time and time again. On arrival we instantly felt welcomed, and everyone was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Before perusing the menu, my dining partner and I thought it would only be right to try Caribbean Croft’s signature cocktail, which went down a treat.

To start we decided to go for the sharing platter and opted for the jerk king prawns, red mullet trini and salt fish fritters. Every dish was bursting with flavour and the red mullet and salt fish fritters had a proper kick of Scotch bonnet chilli. For my main course, I just had to try the jerk chicken leg served in homemade gravy accompanied by fried plantain, and rice and peas. The chicken was so tender it fell off the bone and the rich gravy was beautifully spiced with the chef’s special jerk seasoning. My partner’s slow-roasted jerk belly of pork was succulent and paired perfectly with the accompanying coleslaw. We also ordered a side of sweet dumplings, which we used to mop up the delicious sauces on our plates. The plantain, rum and coconut chimichanga was the perfect dessert to round off our spectacular meal. We both left with our bellies full and a smile on our faces; we can’t wait to return.
