Better Food – St Werburghs
Cafe and Deli
Better Food is all about local, organic and ethical goods and we are lucky enough to have three stores in Bristol, the St Werburghs big shop being the flagship store. You’ll find that’s it’s packed to the rafters with wine, beer fresh fruit and veg and other local produce, as well as a wide selection of health and beauty products. There’s also a café featuring an impressive brunch menu as well as well other tasty treats, and displaying work from local artists.
The ethos behind the company is very straightforward – they believe that health and food are connected, so promote fresh, organic produce in a tranquil environment. We stopped by the Wapping Wharf store for breakfast one morning before work and were overwhelmed by the choice of delectable dishes. After careful consideration, I plumped for a hearty serving of huevos rancheros, with baked eggs and ricotta. Clearly the breakfast of champions, this aromatic dish filled me up until well after lunch. My husband opted for a bacon, guacamole and chipotle sauce sandwich, served on fresh sourdough with rocket. This he paired with an immunity booster juice – featuring manuka honey, ginger, carrot, orange, apple and turmeric – while I had a glass of freshly squeezed apple juice. A few days after visiting for breakfast, we were in need of late-afternoon sustenance, so popped back in. We shared a charcuterie board and a vegan salad board, with some delicious cheese and fresh bread. The fennel salami and turmeric chorizo stole the show on the charcuterie board, and the fresh salads and hummus from the vegan board went down a treat. From a range of organic drinks that includes cider and Moor Beer Company beer, I chose a glass of pinot grigio, while my husband enjoyed the merlot. It’s no wonder that Better Food has been welcomed so heartily to its new neighbourhood – it’s a one stop shop for Bristol’s gourmands
