Westpoint Seafood Bistro
The menu encorporates a truly mouth-watering selection of ocean treats - my dining partner and I started with a triad of rock oysters, moules marinieres and a thick fish soup. As one of the kings of the sea, the oysters were presented exactly as they should be: untouched, on ice with a zing of lemon and a dribble of Tabasco, and they tasted as refreshing and succulent as they looked. The mussels swam in a generous, creamy white wine sauce while the soup was not only accompanied with crispy croutons and a rouille, but was packed full of succulent chunks of fish. My excellent choice of main course was a very fresh and flavoursome whole sea bass with pesto, balsamic vinegar, cherry tomatoes, lemon and thyme, though the fillets of John Dory settled on a bed of mash with asparagus and prawns were also rather attractive. We chose to accompany the meal with a dish of homemade golden chips and a generous bowl of seasonal vegetables before poring over a dessert menu of cheeses and puddings.
The staff were very obliging and chatty, helping to instil the bistro with its relaxing and friendly atmosphere, which is just what you want after a tiring day on the busy sand or in the bustling town centre. Expansive, light-beckoning windows lift the atmosphere, enhancing the clear white and sea blue interior. Offering great food, a very impressive wine list and a delightful bar, Westpoint is an easy-to-find, enjoyable seafood bistro that rightly prides itself on fresh, delicious fish in an open and friendly environment. First class.
