If you've been enjoying a day at the seaside and don't want to leave the laid-back beach vibes behind just yet, a visit to WestBeach is in order. At this award-winning restaurant, located in an enviable spot overlooking the golden sands of Bournemouth beach, patrons can enjoy a tipple outside on the deck while listening to the soothing sounds of the sea. We did just that - our beverage of choice was Prosecco - and felt truly relaxed and at ease in no time.

In the stylish restaurant's open kitchen, skilled chefs work their magic on fresh, local ingredients such as sea bass from nearby Mudeford. My dining partner was tempted by the specials board's offering of tian of Christchurch Bay crab with avocado rillette, tomato vinaigrette, and tomato and cashew nut salsa. I began with crispy duck egg with Peking-style leg meat and crispy pancakes; the richness of the duck contrasted beautifully with the sweetness of the hoisin dressing, the fresh flavour of the cucumber and the zingy spring onions. I then opted for the crab Thermidor main, served with spicy pilaf rice and refreshing green slaw salad, while, across the table, pan-fried fillet of cod with spicy aubergine purée, toasted jumbo couscous, and fennel and shallot salad was heartily enjoyed. I indulged in summer pudding to finish, served with berry coulis and palate-cleansing raspberry sorbet - it truly was summer on a plate. Whether you visit for a business meeting or an informal dinner, you're sure to be won over by WestBeach's chilled ambience, stunning views and superb cuisine
