The AA-rosetted Crooked Beam Restaurant is one of the most historically important restaurants in Dorset. At just over 300 years old, it is steeped in tradition, whilst providing a modern ambience and good honest food. Head chef Simon and his wife Vicki offer an à la carte menu featuring freshly prepared dishes for every palate, including vegetarian and gluten-free options. Also available on most evenings is a fixed-price 'market menu'. Perhaps start with homemade salmon and haddock fishcakes with a warm tomato sauce, followed by 'lamb two ways' - shoulder of Dorset lamb layered with black pudding and boulangère potatoes, and a mini herb-crusted rack of lamb, served with redcurrant and mint sauce. To finish, indulge in the likes of raspberry creme brulée with a fruit compote. Every dish is beautifully presented and delicious. The restaurant was voted 'Best Sunday Lunch 2010' by Daily Echo readers, and offers a comprehensive wine list as well as bottled beers and lager on draft.
