The Wine Bar
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants

19 High Street, Keynsham, Bristol, BS31 1DP

The family-run Wine Bar, though a relatively new addition to Keynsham's busy High Street, has already managed to acquire a host of faithful regulars - and it certainly doesn't take a genius to see why. Owners Alison and Paul, who previously ran a restaurant on the Continent, are passionate about delicious homecooked food and have decorated this lovely little place with knick-knacks and trinkets from France.
We visited for dinner and immediately received a warm welcome from Alison and Paul, who encouraged us to take time over the menu, which, we noticed, included a range of Pieminister pies - mouth-watering treats simply packed with delicious ingredients. Finally I opted for fresh walnut salad, tossed with pieces of warm, tangy goat's cheese, while my companion chose the creamy garlic mushrooms served on granary toast. Next I enjoyed tender medallions of duck breast served with new potatoes in a lovely garlicky sauce, while my companion opted for the 'Matador Pie' from the Pieminister selection - replete with chunks of free-range British beef steak, peppery chorizo, butter beans and olives and served with fresh vegetables and plenty of fluffy mashed potatoes. Alison prepares all food on the premises, and as a result everything tasted beautifully fresh. As the evening drew to a close, we ordered another couple of glasses of the house white - a very drinkable sauvignon blanc - and congratulated each other on the discovery of such a perfect little restaurant. The team also cater for private funtions, and there is a secret garden to discover.
