Hall & Woodhouse at Bath
This fantastic bar and restaurant is set in an impressive building complete with high ceilings, beautiful chandeliers and a show-stopping staircase. When we visited, the bar was filled with lively after-work drinkers, creating a warm, jovial atmosphere. Upon entering, my partner and I were immediately greeted by a friendly barman, and this warm, attentive service continued throughout the evening. We headed to the upstairs dining area, which is set apart from the bustling bar allowing for a more intimate dining experience. In the summertime, diners and drinkers flock to the rooftop terrace to enjoy the stunning views of Bath.
I opted to start with the duck hash, comprising confit duck, Savoy cabbage, potato and grilled red onion topped with a fried egg, while my partner opted for baked mushrooms served with lentils and a flavoursome citrus, caper and sun-blushed tomato dressing. To follow, I plumped for a hearty portion of Badger beer-battered fish and chips, made with sustainably sourced fish and served with triple-cooked chips, tartare sauce and garden peas. My partner delighted in his dish of the high-welfare British rose veal tenderloin wrapped in sage and prosciutto and served with heritage carrots, wilted chard, pomme purée and lemon and caper butter sauce. Although we were both completely satisfied, we couldn’t resist sharing a dessert, and indulged in a West Country cheeseboard – a delightful end to what was a superb meal. We’ll definitely be back to sample the tempting brunch offering, which is served until 3pm Monday to Saturday.
