Hall & Woodhouse Bath
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Hall & Woodhouse is set in an impressive building complete with high ceilings, beautiful chandeliers and a show-stopping staircase. When we visited, the bar was filled with lively after-work drinkers, creating a warm, jovial atmosphere. Upon entering, my partner and I were immediately greeted by a jolly barman, and this diligent level of service continued throughout the evening. We headed to the upstairs dining area, which is set apart from the bustling bar allowing for a more intimate dining experience. In the summertime, diners and drinkers flock to the rooftop terrace to enjoy the stunning views of Bath.
On the recommendation of our knowledgeable waitress, I opted to start with smoked mackerel pâté accompanied by tomato relish and rocket salad, while my partner opted for beetroot gravadlax served with a delicate horseradish crème fraîche. Both starters arrived with light, freshly baked sourdough and whet our appetites. I ordered the perfectly cooked rib-eye, which came with truffle butter, chips and a generous portion of rocket, tomato and red onion salad. My partner chose the high-welfare British rose veal sirloin accompanied by creamy Dauphinoise, wilted greens and honey-roasted carrots. Although we were both full, we couldn’t resist sharing a lemon tart drizzled with raspberry coulis for dessert. A delightful combination of tart and sweet, it provided the perfect end to our feast.
