'Now, these are a revelation' exclaimed my husband as he munched on his starter of crunchy cockle popcorn, and I tucked into delicious deep-fried squid served in a paper bag - the kind of retro touch this place specialises in. CrabShack recently opened its rustic doors on Worthing's seafront, with sisters-in-law Sarah and Lynda realising their dream to serve seafood fresh out of the English Channel; the sustainable seafood comes from a company based in Hove Lagoon just down the road. It's a proper family business; both husbands also work here and, at weekends, their children run the tiny organic ice cream shed nestled just outside. There's outdoor seating for 40 on the terrace and room for 35 in the cosy restaurant. The decor is stylish but simple - exposed wood and brick, with canteen-style tables and a laid back atmosphere. After our starters, we opted for CrabShack's signature dish: the fish plate for two (£29.95). It boasted a whole dressed crab, smoked mackerel pâté, potted shrimp, smoked salmon, mini fritto misto, soda bread and - best of all - old-school prawn cocktail served in sundae dishes. The uncomplicated menu is updated regularly; winter warmers including clam chowder were due to arrive shortly. In addition to the fish dishes, there is always one meat and one veggie option. All in all, this place is a great catch
