Our visit to The Tiger's Pad restaurant was a roaring success. The walls are embossed with animal paws, and the striking tiger-inspired decor extends to the crockery and soft furnishings, revealing the humour and originality of this establishment. The food sets it apart from the norm too. No colourings are used, and chef Ajoy Sachdev, who worked for the famed Taj Group in India, grinds and roasts his own spices, giving the food a deeper, more intense flavour. Peppery poppadoms with house chutney gave a fi erce kick to the start of the meal. The achari murgh that followed - succulent skewers of chicken marinated in red chilli and green mango - was irresistible. Aromas of coriander and fenugreek intoxicated the senses as kahari murgh - a spicy chicken delicacy in rich tomato sauce - was served. In our other main dish, light lemon rice was perfectly paired with tiger prawns in luxurious coconut milk infused with ginger, chilli and garlic. We finished with a refreshing sorbet, but there are also sweeter options such as kulfi or gulab jamun - melt-in-the-mouth milk dumplings in sugar syrup.

If you want to impress your friends, Ajoy will prepare a selection of kebabs for you to barbecue at home, or else book a private party in the Tiger's Den - far from being a daunting experience, this is one animal's lair I can't wait to return to
