Scottish Steakhouse
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants

The Scottish Steakhouse can be found in the resplendent Macdonald Windsor Hotel, nestled in the heart of the historic town of Windsor. As the name suggests, the menu focuses on steak and grill dishes – and exceptional ones at that. You really won’t find a better steak in all of Berkshire. Before you sample the outstanding Scottish beef, I’d suggest you enjoy some of the excellent starters. Squid tempura is enveloped in the lightest of batters and served with a gently piquant chilli and lime dipping sauce. For a heartier option, the black pudding Scotch egg is rich, full of flavour and brilliantly balanced with pickled shallot and piccalilli.
As for the steaks, you really can’t go wrong. The sirloin, cooked to perfection on a Josper grill, is superb and cuts almost like a fillet. With quality like this, it’s clear that the restaurant is serious about steaks. Wine-lovers will be delighted with a list of reds that ranges from light, fruity merlot to spicy shiraz (terrific with rib-eye and peppercorn sauce) and full-bodied Argentine malbec. Whites and rosés are also available, as well as Champagne, and a fair few can be ordered by the glass or carafe. Be sure not to skip dessert; the sticky toffee pudding is wonderful, served with an unctuous toffee sauce. Kids (and adults) can build their own sundae from a huge range of ice creams and toppings.
