Located in the centre of Eton, just a short stroll from Windsor Bridge, the independently run Henry VI is definitely one of the most popular - not to mention lively - pubs in Windsor. We'd heard that this was a pub that people returned to time and time again, so it was with anticipation that we were seated in the cosy, candlelit dining area, complete with gorgeous exposed brickwork. A huge antipasti platter, comprising generous cold cuts with mozzarella and warm rustic bread delighted my Italian companion and exceeded expectations for both of us. We then devoured home-cooked Gloucester Old Spot pork belly with mustard mash, crackling and cider cream sauce - truly delicious. The seasonal menu offers a wide range of dishes to suit all tastes and pockets. Fish lovers can choose from reasonably priced options such as calamari strips with lemon mayonnaise, or whitebait with lemon aioli to start. Or, if it's lunchtime dining you require, choose something from the 'better than a sandwich' menu, served from noon until 3pm (including vegetarian options) for just £6 per head. On Sundays, there's also an all-day roast dinner available for £10.95. There's even a car park a couple of minutes away - free after 7pm - and a foliage-filled, atmospherically lit decked area, ideal for alfresco dining and late-night live music sessions every weekend
