The Bexley Arms
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
50 Bexley Street, Windsor, Sl4 5BX
The Bexley Arms is full of surprises. With its traditional pub frontage, you'd be forgiven for expecting to find your conventional watering hole inside - yet on stepping across the threshold you'll find an African-themed restaurant. Raffiaweave ceilings, wooden artefacts and exotic plants create an interesting, quirky interior and there's a host of exotic fare on the menu. Perhaps sample garlic king prawns sourced from the Madagascan coast as a starter, baked avocado with crab and cheese or mushrooms in creamy garlic and brandy sauce - both of the latter were winning choices for us. For mains, hake in tempura batter and sea bass in herb and lemon butter could tempt even the most ardent meat eater. The choice is endless, and also includes meat feasts such as the house barbecue platters, available for just £9.95, steak au poivre and duck roasted in honey. One thing is for certain - you should arrive at The Bexley Arms with a healthy appetite, as portion sizes are extremely generous. Allow plenty of time for choosing too, as there's a great variety of tempting options. Diners can savour a superb lunch for just £9.50 on Sundays between noon and 3pm. Whether you plump for this fine weekend treat or a weekday dinner, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
