The Alma is pleasingly quirky and full of character; antiques, collectables, knickknacks, paintings and rare film posters (many of which are available to buy) adorn the interior, creating a cosy and eclectic vibe. The gorgeous beer garden is one of the biggest in Windsor, and now includes a lovely play area for children. Dogs are welcome at this family-friendly establishment, which is just a ten-minute walk from central Windsor.

Of course, people don't just come to The Alma for its individual charm, but also for the excellent food - the portion sizes here are legendary. Although the helpings may be generous, it doesn't mean quantity is valued over quality; instead, pride is taken in serving first-rate home-cooked fare. Popular dishes include the Alma beef burger served with incredibly tasty chips (cut with an American chipper and twice-fried to make them crispy yet light and fluffy), the warming chilli bread bowl and the fantastic fish finger sandwich. If the legendary Alma portion sizes are too daunting, opt instead for one or two of the smaller plates; Dave's duck (the chef's special) and the quesadillas are particularly good. The selection of Cask Marque accredited ales, quality beers and fine wines and the gorgeous, vast garden provide yet more reasons to venture from central Windsor to visit this delightful pub
