Peascod Street, Windsor, SL4 1DE
Located bang in the centre of Windsor, this bar and restaurant is a popular destination for locals and casual passers by alike. It's uniquely decorated, with expressive art sprawling all over the walls. There are comfy red leather chairs inside, and there's a covered and heated terrace area with Moroccan lighting outside - the ideal setting for sipping a pre-dinner cocktail.

The menu is down-to-earth and unpretentious, and includes pizza, homemade burgers and favourites such as sausages and mash, and ham and eggs. We shared the '51 plate' for starters, which came layered with calamari, garlic mushrooms, chicken livers, Serrano ham, mozzarella and tomatoes and dips - it was truly a knockout feast in itself.

Elsewhere on the menu, the pub proudly announces that the Royal Farm Shop supplies them exclusively with their beef, pork and lamb products - so, it would have been churlish not to sample them. We had the rib-eye steak (from the Sussex herd), served with ample chips, tomatoes and mushrooms, and the steak and Guinness pie, which came with fresh vegetables and a winningly creamy mash. Finishing off with classic desserts of creme brulée and cheesecake, we rolled home with a warm satisfied feeling inside
