The Black Bottle
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
The Black Bottle is any wine-lover’s dream. The third enterprise from David Nicholson opened in 2012 and is situated five minutes down the road from The Black Rat restaurant and The Black Boy pub. Make an evening out of visiting all three venues – making sure to start or finish the night in The Black Bottle.
The building dates back to the 19th century and retains many of its period features, but nothing about this wine bar’s concept is dated. All visitors are given a unique wine dispensing card, which they can then top up with cash. The Black Bottle encourages drinkers to sample wine in varying sizes; the taster glass of 25ml, a small glass of 125ml or a large 175ml glass. The bar has four self-service wine dispensers which feature eight different wine bottles including red, white and rosé varietals. The cellar boasts over 150 different wines from both Old and New World, so whether you’re a wine connoisseur or a complete novice, you’re guaranteed to find a tipple that you love. For those less into their wine, there is lager on draught and bottled beer, as well as various soft drinks.
The cold meat and cheese platters on offer are ideal for sharing and are the perfect accompaniment to a wine tasting. The event nights hosted by The Black Bottle are incredibly fun and interesting. From the wine around the world night to a wine and oyster evening, owner David Nicholson and his creative team are always willing to try something new.
The relaxing atmosphere of the venue, with large wooden tables converted from floorboards, long benches and serene lighting, is carried throughout five separate rooms. Large and smaller groups are always welcomed by the inviting staff. It is possible to hire the venue for a party too. The small heated outside area is popular on warm evenings, when revellers sit back and enjoy their wine while watching the world go by. The Black Bottle stands out from the crowd thanks to its creative concept, genuine value for money and relaxing environment.
