Community-conscious Rumbles is a charity with a string of delightful cafés and an outside catering service. Their tagline of 'good food, good times, good cause' describes their ethos exactly. Focusing on training people with learning disabilities in the catering trade, Rumbles helps to improve employment opportunities and develop personal and social skills, while delivering a wonderfully unique and enjoyable experience.

Few things are more pleasant on a day out than a steaming cup of tea in a cosy café. If it's a Rumbles café you're lucky enough to stumble across, there's hot food and cake on offer too - all made fresh on the premises and offering unbeatable value. Arriving at the Sutton in Ashfield café one chilly lunchtime, my companion ordered a creamy hot chocolate while I enjoyed a refreshing pot of tea. My mushroom and pepper bake came in a rich tomato sauce topped with cheese, while my friend's large steak pie arrived with red wine gravy and root vegetables. We couldn't resist the traditional desserts and opted for the light and fluffy treacle sponge and a slice of Bakewell tart, both with hot custard. Before leaving, I eyed up the tempting Friday fish menu and the Sunday lunch offerings with a mind to return.

Rumbles at Newark's historic Sconce and Devon Park is just as charming, with colourful butterfly-print tablecloths, outdoor seating and stunning views of the famous Sconce Hill. We were once again impressed by the culinary choice; there were sandwiches of all kinds, an all-day breakfast, jacket potatoes and daily specials. This time, my partner chose the soup of the day - a warming blend of leek and potato that was beautifully seasoned and presented with a swirl of cream. I opted for the cod special and again we succumbed to the desserts.

Rumbles in Clipstone is next on the list to visit. Having recently undergone a delightful transformation, it now has an entirely new look. There is beautiful new china for its range of teas and barista coffees, as well as a brand-new menu and a wonderful selection of ice cream
