In the heart of Eynsham, this 17th-Century traditional English pub and eatery sums up what is so appealing about Great British hospitality. With an open log fire, low beams and cosy decor, it's the perfect haven on colder evenings, and there's a garden terrace at the rear for relaxing when the sun is shining. There's a simple menu and a varied specials board offering good-value dishes, which change regularly to make the best use of seasonal produce.

The food here is heartily portioned and wholesome. We started with a basket of warm fresh bread and a taster of freshly cooked meatballs. For mains, we shared a succulent rump steak with chunky chips and all the trimmings, and a pork cordon bleu with crunchy seasonal vegetables. Everything was beautifully presented and mouth-watering.

In the beverage department, there are well-kept real ales as well as a wine list that perfectly complements the food. Pound-saving offers are available almost every day, and the pub hosts regular pasta nights, curry nights, 'meal deal' evenings - when you get a pint or a glass of wine with every meal - and fantastic Sunday roasts, as well as a meat draw on Saturdays and regular quizzes. Just over the road, a function room and bar is available for hire for parties and events. So, why not pop along to this charming country inn for lunch, dinner, a swift pint or a full-on celebration? The Newlands Inn provides with warmth and style.
