The charming village of Brize Norton is perhaps best known for the nearby air base and its fascinating history. At its centre you'll find an appealing Cotswolds inn. Since the 18th Century, The Chequers has stood at the heart of the community, and continues to provide a warm welcome to locals and travellers alike today. On arrival, we first noticed the huge gardens, with room for plenty of diners and drinkers, as well as a small adventure playground for younger children - a lovely area in which to relax and put your feet up after a long day exploring the countryside.

The well-presented menu included notable and extensive vegetarian offerings, and was supplemented by a large specials board, leaving visitors spoilt for choice. We started with the delightfully crispy duck spring rolls as well as a prawn and dill cocktail with tossed rocket and salad leaves. This was followed up with a rack of finger-licking barbecue ribs with lots of sauce, alongside a really quite lovely homemade turkey and gammon pie. To finish, we went for two established pub favourites: sticky toffee pudding and decadent hot chocolate fudge cake. For pleasant pub food in a welcoming, family-friendly setting, pay a visit to The Chequers.
