The Angel could be best described as a jukebox of contentment; from yards down the road, hear the laughter and chatter of happy locals, the clinking of glasses and cutlery coming from satisfied diners, and the occasional celebratory roar of a community gathered together to watch the latest sporting event.

The 100-year-old coaching inn has been gradually improved over the past five years, according to the exact specifications of owner Shobna Joel - and it now represents the perfect example of a quality, contemporary rural country pub and restaurant. In a nod to the pub's heritage, there is a range of good, homecooked food on offer to serve hungry travellers and loyal locals. To this, a range of modern amenities has been added; there is an idyllic outdoor area, a disco at the end of every month, and a fun night of karaoke every other Friday.

Even if you think you aren't hungry, a look at the tantalising menu will soon convince you otherwise. Traditional sandwiches are given a twist with fillings such as charred bacon and poached egg, and hot roast belly of pork with onion chutney; heartier appetites will be sated by the 12oz rib-eye steak with rustic chips, or an overflowing bowl of green-lipped mussels in a white wine and cream sauce. However you choose to enjoy The Angel, there is something to take everyone to seventh heaven.
