Bell at Boxford
Dining at the Bell can be an informal affair, with the bar area serving snacks and bar food, including their award-winning Bellburger: eight ounces of pure beef with cheese and bacon on a bed of fresh leaves, tomato and onion all placed on a sesame seed bun and smothered in homemade mayonnaise - total indulgence. The restaurant provides a more sophisticated dining experience, offering modern international cuisine. With starters such as confit of duck in filo with Grand Marnier, and Black Spot pork terrine with Bramley apple sauce, it is obvious that the owners take advantage of fresh local produce. Mains are equally inventive with dishes such as pan-seared and roasted corn-fed chicken with ratatouille, duchess potato and a cream and wild mushroom sauce; or classic beef bourguignon served in a Yorkshire pudding on wholegrain mustard mash, which beautifully fuses French and British tradition to create a mouthwatering meal. As you can imagine, with such good food and wine and a fabulous setting, the Bell at Boxford makes an ideal venue for a party or wedding. Menus can be tailor made - with hog roasts and barbecues available on request - so you can be assured that your celebration will be one to remember.
Whether you're staying in one of the 11 immaculately appointed en-suite bedrooms (complete with free WiFi access, which is available throughout the inn), spending a leisurely Sunday enjoying one of the finest roast lunches in the area (served from midday until 9pm), or just popping in for a pint of real ale on the way to Newbury Racecourse, you'll be glad you found this Berkshire beauty.
