Now that so many Brits are wine enthusiasts, it's not surprising that this refreshing venue is a popular meeting place, alive with cheerful banter and the clinking of glasses during our lunchtime visit. Furnished in a contemporary style, Red Heads has a relaxed atmosphere created by its friendly service and eclectic mix of clientele, including local business people, trendy 20-somethings and ladies who lunch.

Owner Tony Laithwaite is a wine importer and producer, with a winery in South Australia - so you can be confident of excellent quality. Apart from Champagne, all the wines can be sampled by the glass or bottle and, if a favourite is found, supplies can be ordered to take home. Husband-and-wife cheffing team Ann and Lee specialise in dishes that are informal, fresh, colourful and geared to healthy eating. At the forefront are platters for sharing (or keeping to yourself) that may include cold meats, cheeses, paté or hummus - all served with crisp salad. There's plenty of choice with soups, bar snacks and daily specials such as prawn and avocado salad or quiche Lorraine. Our stuffed pepper was delicious, and we also enjoyed baked potato with plump prawns and a creamy piquant dip. Wednesday is buffet day and there are often evening events that may feature live music or a quiz. Whatever the day, one can be sure of tasty, freshly prepared food of the highest quality, and a choice of wines that will leave you revelling in grape glory.
Open: Mon-Weds 11am-7pm; Thurs-Sat 11am-11pm
