Grab yourself a juicy bite of the Big Apple at this independent American-themed restaurant. Slide into a booth, order yourself a cocktail and explore the hearty menu of Stateside specialities. Grand Central embraces everything we love about American dining: the upbeat, friendly service, generous portions and straightforward food of bold flavours.

To kick my evening off in true New York style, a refreshing Mojito was drafted in to wet the whistle - extra fruit pieces gave it a delicious and colourful twist. I went for the strawberry version but they have several different ones to choose from. These imaginative Mojito variations made up only one part of the eclectic and irresistible cocktail menu.

Sipping our drinks and admiring the stylish black-and-white images of iconic New York landmarks, we thought we were as close as we could get to the real deal. That is until our Super Bowl sharing platter arrived and catapulted us further into our American fantasy. This mouth-watering starter featured nachos, onion rings, deep-filled potato skins, juicy chicken wings and crispy breaded chicken. It may have been big, but it was no match for our equally sizable appetites.
The main course brought with it tender, slow-roasted pulled pork in a toasted ciabatta bun, and a plate of ribs and chicken with moreish Captain Morgan's spiced rum sauce. Both were served with crispy fries and fresh coleslaw. Even after all this, we somehow managed to find room for dessert. It was a good job too, as my chocolate brownie sundae and my partner's fruit salad with cream were both delicious.

Our waiter was fantastic; very friendly and really enthusiastic, offering his personal recommendations to help us with our decisions. Grand Central also has a great bar - make the most of it by getting some drinks in before your meal. Alternatively, you may want to visit simply to sample that fun cocktail menu. I'll be back, only next time I'll come in the morning; the American-style breakfasts were beyond tempting. Pancake stacks with cream and berries and cinnamon waffles topped with eggs and bacon both sound like a great way to start the day to me
