The Griffin Inn
A family-run pub since 1979, The Griffin Inn offers everything you could want from a classic country pub: honest, home-cooked fare and an inviting atmosphere. The interior maintains a traditional feel, with wood panelling, roaring fires and a wide selection of real ale. Those wishing to explore the local area can stay overnight in one of 13 bedrooms – all of which have been lovingly restored to offer both comfort and character.
The menus offer hearty meals, crafted with the finest local ingredients; vegetables are sourced from a nearby market, fish is freshly caught and delivered daily, and the beef and game come from neighbouring farms and estates. The food offering is largely seasonal too, ensuring a fresh selection each time you visit. The typical offering is a blend of traditional meals and contemporary plates, with the chefs taking inspiration from British cuisine, as well as from our European neighbours. Starters might range from classic ham hock terrine and baked Camembert to exotic and spicy sweet potato, coconut and chilli soup. For your main, choose from a tender lamb shank braised in thyme and rosemary and succulent rib-eye steak and a serving of chunky, hand-cut chips. Seafood-lovers will be delighted by the flavoursome mullet, prawn and crab stew, while the butternut squash, cauliflower and spinach curry is a creative vegetarian option.
The jewel in The Griffin’s crown is the exceptional wine list. A carefully curated selection, this menu showcases wine from all over the world, as well as from the UK. The staff are happy to offer recommendations to help you find the perfect drink to complement your meal, and you can even have your bottle stoppered if you wish to finish it at home.
Outside, the pub also boasts a beautiful two-acre garden, complete with impressive views of the National Trust’s Sheffield Park, an outdoor bar serving wine and cocktails, and a barbecue. This area, with its gentle slopes, picnic benches and open spaces, is the perfect place to spend quality time with family during the warmer months.
