The Nevill Crest & Gun
The Nevill Crest & Gun takes its name and imposing bull monogram from the Nevill family, and dates back over 500 years. The building cleverly balances intimacy and spaciousness, while still maintaining that cosy pub feel. The pub recently won a Gold Award for having the best pub garden in Tunbridge Wells – it’s well worth having a wander around.
The pub, now managed by the very personable Ed and his attentive team of staff, offers modern dishes based on well-loved classics, accompanied by a vast array of world-class wine and locally sourced cask ale. I started my meal with the crab and cucumber salad, filled with samphire, pea shoots, broad beans and horseradish cream. It proved to be delicate and yet a delicious mix of colours and flavours. My partner chose the Aspall’s cider-steamed mussels with leek and cream sauce – which he happily mopped up with a chunk of fresh bread. To follow, I chose the Barber’s cheese and potato pie with whole grain mustard and chive sauce, while my partner tucked into the 8oz burger topped with bacon and Cheddar cheese. Sadly, neither of us had room for dessert, despite being sorely tempted to try the hot waffle with caramelised banana and toffee sauce.
Thanks to outstanding food coupled with friendly, efficient service, The Nevill Crest & Gun has become a firm favourite on our foodie map.
