The Bat and Ball
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Bat and Ball Lane, Boundstone, Farnham, GU10 4SA
Hidden away and backing onto the Bourne stream in Boundstone, The Bat and Ball is tricky to find - but what a find it is when you get there. This rustic pub is over 150 years old and set in the buildings that were once used by hop pickers. Featuring beamed ceilings and terracotta floors, there is also a whole wall dedicated to cricket memorabilia - not surprising considering the pub's name. The Bat and Ball boasts a large and varied menu, and we had trouble deciding on what to select. We finally settled on the deep-fried breaded Brie with a cranberry, orange and Port sauce, which was moreish and delicious. For my main course I picked the traditional coq au vin, while my companion opted for the baked butternut squash, stuffed with minced lamb, tomato, cumin, cous cous and feta cheese. Equally delightful, we were both completely full by the end - with no room for dessert. The range of desserts and cheeses looked amazing however, and we will certainly try them next time. The pub is also very proud of its real ales, and with six hand pumps behind the bar you will never go without a traditional tipple or two. With jackpot quiz nights, live music and an annual beer and cider festival among many other events, this pub is truly at the heart of the community. For summer evenings there's a large patio area and garden, while in the winter there's a roaring log fire in the bar. And with a children's menu and play area outside, there really is something for everyone.
