Situated on the Godalming to Farnham Road, in Tilford, you’ll find The Donkey – a gorgeous family-run pub, with a pretty garden, dining conservatory and, of course, a couple of donkeys, Pip and Dusty. The pub has been lovingly looked after for 17 years by husband-and-wife team Lee and Helen, who have made their mark on the local community and are well-known for their fine food.
The Donkey may be a charming traditional building – it was originally two small cottages that were converted in 1850 to the building you see today – however when it comes to dining it certainly has more of a restaurant feel than a pub. The menu is all about classic food, prepared properly and served beautifully. The team at The Donkey is passionate about food, and this is clear from the seasonal dishes and the care taken in sourcing the best local produce. Ingredients only make it into the kitchen if they are from trusted suppliers, so every dish is of the highest quality. Fish dishes are always a hit, as are the lobster Thermidor and the duo of Welsh lamb. Quench your thirst with something from the bar, perhaps with a real ale, a local ale or a Hogsback cider, and round your meal off with one of The Donkey’s delicious homemade ice creams.
This is a pub with a following, and once you’ve visited, you’ll soon see why so many rate it as a favourite.
