White Horse at Woolstone
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Marsh Way, Woolstone, Nr. Faringdon, SN7 7QL
Overlooked by the ancient Wayland Smithy and Uffington Castle, the 16th-Century White Horse at Woolstone is steeped in local history. Positioned conveniently on the Oxfordshire and Berkshire borders, just a few minutes from the A420, the inn is a popular destination for locals and weary visitors who pop in for respite after viewing the famous Uffington White Horse etched in chalk across the Oxfordshire hills. Oak beams and inglenook fireplaces add to the pub's warmth and charm, and several nooks and crannies offer privacy and relaxation. There's a great ambience around the bar, where all are welcome to sit and sample real ales from a local 170-year-old family brewery. During the summer the refurbished patio and garden are popular with families and hikers who come to dine from the bar or à la carte menus. Largely sourced from local farmers, the food is fresh, cooked to order and includes delicious steaks with homemade chunky chips and whole fried scampi in its shell. Sampling all of the White Horse's wares can be tiring work so it's a good idea to make use of the lovely en-suite accommodation. Set in tranquil surroundings with much to offer nearby, this is a great stay.
