Set within the luxurious Sudbury House Hotel, Magnolia Brasserie is the natural counterpart to the hotel’s fi ne dining restaurant, Restaurant 56. Open every day, you can enjoy an informal and relaxing lunch or dinner in this stylish brasserie – complete with an open kitchen and wood burning stove to add an air of theatre to your dining experience, as you watch chefs create dishes of flavour and flair right before you.
While the atmosphere is certainly more relaxed, the culinary standard is kept at an exceptional high – and Magnolia Brasserie has 2 AA rosettes to prove it. What differs is the food served; you’ll fi nd a menu consisting of lighter bites, nibbles and sharing boards. The crispy pork belly with jersey royal new potatoes and greens in particular caught our attention, though there were no choices that we wouldn’t have happily scoffed down.
You’ll also fi nd a number of bigger meals, perfect for an evening dinner. There’s a range of stone-baked pizzas, topped with mouth-watering artisan ingredients such as chorizo and smoked mozzarella, or salmon, dill and burratta. Meanwhile, plated meals may include deliciously fresh market fi sh, chargrilled steaks, and nostalgic reinventions of such classic dishes as the beefburger or fi sh and chips, interpreted here as wagyu beefburger with streaky bacon, gherkins and brioche bun, and White Horse ale battered fi sh and chips with crushed peas and tartare sauce, respectively. A full complement of scrumptious and freshly made desserts completes the offering, and we were blown away by the chocolate and peanut butter fondant, which was sweet and incredibly moreish.
The wine list matches the tone of the main menu, and features a great range of Old and New World wines to match any meal on the menu. Magnolia Brasserie also hosts a number of offers throughout the year, so it’s well worth keeping an eye on their menu.
A large terrace area makes for a great al fresco dining spot, with views across the manicured lawns and landscaped gardens. If you’re in the area, don’t pass up the opportunity to sample this fantastic fare and soak up the atmosphere.
