Faringdon’s Sudbury House does nothing by halves, offering guests the promise of great relaxation and an escape from the mundane. 50 luxurious en-suite rooms come stylishly decorated, while two custom suites are available for added grandeur, perfect for a special occasion. The former Georgian home turned Grade II listed building exists in order to create a world of pampered luxury, which is ideal for celebrations. Landscaped gardens and lush green grass give way to oak-panelled rooms and feature fi replaces, giving an ethereal impression through quaint decor. Restaurant 56 offers splendour and escapism, providing the utmost in fi ne dining and service. The restaurant has been awarded three AA rosettes for culinary excellence, which gives a hint to the gastronomic delights on offer, and your high expectations will not be disappointed. Executive chef Andrew Scott puts his extensive experience to use, creating a range of deliciously innovative menus.
On these you’ll find such delights as the Wiltshire wood pigeon with artichoke, goose liver and Madeira jus, and Andrew’s venison main – a dish that won him great praise as a contestant on 2016’s Great British Menu. Dessert arrived in the breathtaking form we’d somehow already become accustomed to, and the wine list is every bit as well-researched as you’d hope from such a top-quality establishment. Full vegetarian menus are available to complete the tasting menus, and all menus change with the seasonal produce that is directly available to the restaurant. This focus on seasonality results in only the freshest and finest cuisine being served. Dinner is served from 6.30pm until 9pm, Wednesday to Saturday, but the restaurant is open for afternoon tea daily from noon until half four.
