The Moor, Hawkhurst, TN18 4NX
The beautiful rural Kentish Eight Bells pub has presided over The Moor, Hawkhurst for 400 years. Despite a devastating fire in the 90s, it retains many of its original features, including a log fire, oak beams and walls decorated with old curiosities. It offers a homely warm welcome for all, Sky Sports and live music for those looking for some entertainment, and a quiet restaurant with a new private terrace for those looking for a more relaxing lunch or dinner. When the weather is warm, a meal and drink in the pretty beer garden is a must.

Recently taken over by charming owners Jack and Gill, the pub offers superbly priced meals, including a bargain senior citizens' deal for under £5. Whether you visit for lunch, a snack or an evening meal, you'll be treated to delicious fare - regular specials include pan-fried salmon and risottos. Expect to start with classic moules marinieres or succulent garlic mushrooms. For the main course, choose a divinely tender lamb shank, a homemade fish dish, a hearty meat pie or lasagne. You can also order healthy salads and scrumptious desserts such as jam roly-poly and chocolate fudge cake; fresh strawberries are available for those after something a little lighter. The Eight Bells is an absolute must for anyone who enjoys good food.
