Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
The menu of traditional pub food is supplemented by game from a large local estate; vegetables and fruit are supplied by local retailers in the village. Meals can be enjoyed in the small dining room and bar area, while the pool room is, as I write this, being converted into a restaurant area - complete with a crackling log fire.
My choice of starter - breaded Brie wedges with cranberry sauce - arrived on a bed of salad. My wife chose breaded lemon sole goujons with tartare sauce on a bed of rocket, which she was very happy with indeed. For the main course we both decided upon the game casserole - a hearty mix of venison, partridge and hare in thick gamey gravy with a creamy mash topping. I had no room for dessert, but my wife's sweet tooth got the better of her - after much deliberation she opted for the lovely light lemon cheesecake - a zesty little slice of heaven.
