The Griffin

The Griffin is a small pub with a big heart. The bar area is well-patronised, buzzing with groups of friends, couples and families contentedly chatting over a drink or two. The dining area is where the real magic happens. Here guests can enjoy contemporary, high-quality cuisine that would rival restaurants in the capital. We were impressed by the imaginative selection of small plates, enabling diners to try a few different dishes, as well as the superb pub classics with a twist. We started with gooey baked Camembert with apple and garlic jelly, and moreish chicken satay. We then chose from the outstanding selection of grill dishes: pan-fried calf's liver and crispy dry cured bacon with thyme mash, buttery spinach and caramelised onion jus, and a juicy homemade beef burger topped with bacon, red onion chutney and Cheddar. We finished on a high note with two traditional treats - Eton Mess and sticky toffee pudding - which summed up the fantastic food on offer here: classics done extremely well
