The Angel at Addington Green is a characterful Grade II listed pub with an outstanding menu. With options for meat-lovers, vegetarians and gluten-intolerant guests, there’s something to suit all palates. Upon arrival we were greeted by a choice of over 137 gin varieties and a comprehensive selection of Kentish beer. The menu was equally impressive and I chose to start with a melt-in-the-mouth Stilton and mushroom tartlet, encased in wonderfully light pastry. My wife opted for delicious chicken liver pâté complemented by orange marmalade and toast. For mains I ordered a fish special – a large and beautifully cooked fillet of haddock in light batter, served with delectable mushy peas and chips. My wife couldn’t resist the succulent oven-roast lamb rump – generously portioned and paired with rosemary and garlic new potatoes, salsa verde and cavolo nero. To finish we decided to treat ourselves to puddings, but with so many tempting options we struggled to choose. In the end we followed the chef’s recommendation and were not disappointed. The white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake was beautifully presented, rich yet surprisingly light, while the classic crème brûlée was perfectly executed – silky smooth and creamy, topped with a crisp layer of caramelised sugar and served with shortbread. With such impeccable, friendly service and excellent fare, we will certainly be back.
