Head inside and discover the cosy, club-like ambience of the Empire Room restaurant. There are a number of menus to choose from throughout the day, with options to suit all budgets, palates and appetites. Head chef Craig Mather crafts the finest classic dishes with a contemporary twist. If you’re visiting in the evening, you might choose from the excellent-value set menu, which offers two courses for £19 or three for £24. To start, try the cream of local Rose Farm caulifl ower soup with Ashmore Cheddar rarebit, and follow with steamed Kentish game suet pudding, served with spiced red cabbage, mashed potato and red wine sauce. A special vegan menu makes those following a plant-based diet feel right at home. Sample creative vegan dishes such as grilled homemade crumpets with sautéed garlic mushrooms to start, and the likes of spiced potatoes with spinach, roasted caulifl ower, and fennel and shallot bhaji served in a spiced tomato sauce for mains. These tempting vegan options can be enjoyed for the reasonable price of just £14.95 for two courses. If you’re looking for a real bargain, visit for the Monday supper club and enjoy three courses for just £19. For more variety, take your time perusing the à la carte – the glazed pork belly with spiced butternut squash, and slow-braised lamb shoulder with herb potato cake are sure to delight.
If you’d like to take in the wonderful views while dining, perhaps the lounge and garden menu would be more suitable. Saturday sees afternoon tea added to the offering, and comprises finger sandwiches, scrumptious cakes, homemade lemonade and, of course, a choice of tea and coffee. This beloved restaurant is child- and pet-friendly, so why not bring the whole family?
