The Harbour Cafe Bar Kitchen
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Once inside, a plethora of decorative fairy lights and reflective mirrors create a twinkling contrast to the exposed brickwork of the walls and, with its ornate railings, wooden split-level flooring and a comfy leather sofa, the relaxed interior makes you feel instantly at home. After a warm welcome from owner Lesley and her friendly staff, we took our seats and pondered the impressive selection of homemade delicacies - a lengthy process much facilitated by a wonderful glass of cabernet sauvignon de gras.
Starters include a hearty bowl of fresh mushroom soup, finished with a swirl of cream and flat-leaf parsley, and a king prawn cocktail boasting huge and succulent prawns. Main-course favourites include the hefty Harbour burger, which comes in a toasted bap together with a mouth-watering salad of rocket, red onion, peppers, radish and olives, accompanied by glorious and moreish chunky fries. Or try the superb homemade wild salmon fish cakes; gloriously succulent and meaty patties fried until perfectly crispy then made into a veritable feast with an accompaniment of chips and salad. If there's any room left for dessert, I suggest the 'Harbour mess'; a creamy, dreamy concoction of meringue pieces and delicately perfumed raspberries and blueberries, all laced together with softly whipped cream - a real taste of summer.
This is also home to the seaside wing of London's Vortex Jazz Club and regular top-class jazz nights are held here. For that true Continental feel, why not round off a memorable evening with a prize-winning speciality coffee made from fine Italian Illy beans' Then relax and linger a while longer as you reflect on a very memorable evening at this chic and stylish diner's paradise.
