Tucked away at the end of The Parade in Minnis Bay is a bar and restaurant which serves up the most exquisite meals we've experienced in years. Owner and chef Jason Freedman carefully selects local produce which, with his head chef and incredibly dedicated team, is turned into some outstanding dishes, great for lunch or dinner.

We were greeted and seated beside the panoramic windows, which provided spectacular views over the sandy bay, and were quite happy watching windsurfers and boats bobbing along the shoreline while perusing the menu. The polite, smart waitress soon brought us the home-produced charcuterie platter. A medley of tempting meats including salt-beef, salami and chorizo was presented beautifully alongside salad, homemade pickles and chutney, and fresh locally baked bread. For my main course, I plumped for one of Jason's newest dishes, Kentish lamb hotpot. Tender lamb cooked with in-season local vegetables in a silky red wine sauce and topped with sliced potatoes and Kentish Ashmore cheese proved a mouth-watering dish - one that I enjoyed immensely. I wasn't alone in my enjoyment; it appeared to be a very popular dish among many of Minnis' diners. The specials menu is a great choice if you're looking for good value, too, as three courses are available for just £20 (or two for £15). Diners will find that vegetarians are well catered for and there are children's meals available, should you have the little ones with you.

Our desserts were true works of art. The generous slice of homemade Belgian chocolate tart, served with mint flavoured ice cream and Chinese gooseberry, was too good for words, while the platter of miniature desserts comes highly recommended. Tropical jelly and strawberry cheesecake arrived in delicate portions along with a sliver of the rich Belgian chocolate tart and homemade raisin ice cream on a homemade chocolate chip cookie - it was as good as it sounds.

As The Minnis is a free house, you'll find a good selection of local beers, and the Italian-style coffee machine provides excellent coffee alongside some pretty exceptional decaffeinated options and various teas. Jason has thrown a few special events into the mix too. There are now theme nights, such as Italian and French evenings, and the last Friday of the month is curry night. Understandably, given the quality of our meal, booking is essential for these popular evenings
