Sarson Lane, Amport, SP11 8AE

Set in the village of Amport and surrounded by rolling countryside and thatched cottages, The Hawk Inn is a quintessentially English country pub. With stunning views, an impressive seasonal menu of British fare and a welcoming atmosphere, The Hawk has everything you could ask for and more – there’s even a few stylish boutique rooms available for out-of-town visitors.

Choose a seat in the cosy lounge or outside on the pretty sandstone terrace before ordering from the extensive drinks list – wine has been sourced from all over the world, including France, South Africa and Australia. Next, peruse the menu – expect a tempting selection of tasty starters, mouth-watering mains and delicious desserts all crafted from seasonal ingredients. You might find starters of venison Scotch egg served with apple and black pudding purée, followed by a classic burger made with your choice of beef, chicken or cod. Alternatively, sample the leek and potato rosti before moving on to a main of tender confit duck leg or creamy roasted butternut squash linguine. The juicy steaks are consistent favourites too, each accompanied by hand-cut chips, roasted mushrooms, tomato and peppercorn sauce.

At lunchtime, guests are offered an array of freshly made sandwiches. Try the succulent pulled pork burger or opt for the Cajun chicken BLT wrap – a spicy twist on a well-loved classic.
