Shell Bay enjoys a privileged location on the Purbeck peninsula, overlooking beautiful Brownsea Island and Poole Harbour. Enjoy a charming ferry trip across the water or a picturesque drive through the National Park before being welcomed at the door of this seafood eatery by friendly, capable staff, ready to show you to tables with lovely waterside views.

Lunchtime appetites can be sated with dishes like steamed razor clams with chilli, ginger and garlic or duck cooked three ways and served with citrus fruit and stem ginger dressing. The evening menu features delicious starters such as oysters with shallot vinegar, and organic Scottish salmon cured with lime and galangal and served with wasabi creme fraiche, beetroot salsa and pea shoots. You're guaranteed a completely different kettle of fish - so to speak - on each visit, as the menu changes daily. Mains might include line-caught Poole Bay sea bass with picked Portland crab, Thai salad and peanuts, grilled Dorset grey mullet with tarragon cream or pollock with Savoy cabbage, mussel and bacon broth. There are Italian, Chilean, Australian, French and Spanish wines to match.

Not far from Corfe Castle, Shell Bay is a popular choice for wedding parties - many even choose to charter boats nearby. There are buffet menus to enjoy or sumptuous three-course wedding breakfasts. Otherwise, for a more casual dining experience, go for good-old fish and chips on the beac
