After 15 years of working on other projects, Toni and his team are at the helm of the Vecchia Roma once more, much to the delight of the restaurant's many regulars from back in the day. Toni and his brigade have refurbished the restaurant, breathing new life into this much-loved eatery. Classic Italian dining is the name of the game here, and everything at the restaurant is carefully thought out to ensure diners have the most authentic experience possible, from the murals adorning the walls, to the extensive menu brimming with Italian favourites.

The many refined versions of Italian dishes we know and love, including some fantastic fish and seafood dishes, proved rather tempting, and we took our time deciding what to try first. I plumped for a bowl of beautifully cooked mussels in a robust tomato sauce. Plenty of warm, fresh bread was on hand to soak up the remainder of the delicious homemade sauce. We also sampled delectable steak tartare with thin slices of crispy toast. Other mouth-watering openers include liver with crispy pancetta, and staple Italian nibbles such as olives, cured meats and paté.

The list of mains is just as extensive, with plenty of standout options. The mustard lamb flavoured with rosemary, garlic and a hint of chilli was sensational, with the zingy mustard complementing the richness of the meat. I was tempted to order the chicken with asparagus and mushroom - certainly one to try on my next visit. Expertly crafted pasta dishes are in attendance too. I can heartily recommend the tomato, white wine and steak dish. The wine list has something to suit all palates and pockets. We sipped the wonderful house wine, but if you're celebrating a special occasion, Champagne and Prosecco will add a bit of luxury to proceedings.

We rounded off our meal with a feast of sweet treats, which were rolled out on a classic dessert trolley. Fruit salad, cakes, gateaux and tiramisu were just a few of the desserts available. The latter was a boozy, creamy mouthful of pleasure. All in all, Vecchia Roma is a memorable place to catch up over a laid-back lunch or a celebratory evening meal, and the residents of East Molesey - and Kingston, which is just a short drive away - are a very lucky bunch indeed to have it back up and running under the guidance of Toni and his team
