The Old House Restaurant
Effingham Road, Copthorne, West Sussex, RH10 3JB
Guests visiting this 16th-Century cottage could not ask for a more tranquil setting in which to enjoy fine food, drink and hospitality. This beautiful venue has maintained its original features, with lattice windows, old beams and inglenook fireplaces, thanks to the Dormon family who have owned The Old House since 1979. Their influence has allowed the cottage to be renovated and extended for the benefit of visitors, while retaining all the charm of the original building. In the summer, as an alternative to the laid-back ambience of the restaurant, the Burstow Room opens out onto the patio and beautiful gardens - a perfect backdrop for dining in the sun.
The menu is a combination of efforts from the owners and head chef, merging the best of authentic French and British cuisine. Why not begin with a leek, pea and broad bean risotto with Parmesan shavings and white truffle oil, followed up by grilled Dover sole brushed with olive oil, served on or off the bone with crushed sea salt, lemon, new potatoes and panache of vegetables. As well as excellent dinners, there are weekday lunch and Sunday menus available. With food this good, it is no wonder The Old House keeps picking up AA rosettes.
With its stunning surroundings, outstanding customer service and first-rate cuisine, The Old House Restaurant is perfect for any occasion.
