The Genting Club occupies an impressive building on Terminus Terrace, taking its place among the bars and eateries of Southampton's Oxford Street. Once inside, the lighting and clever use of space mean that the club's dining area feels warm and personal. Service is friendly and professional, and on arrival we were immediately offered the opportunity to relax in the bar while we perused the two menus: a set option that's available from Sunday to Thursday and offers two courses for £9.95 or three for £11.95, as well as an à la carte. We dined from the latter. My spring rolls comprised crispy pastry concealing succulent duck, and the accompanying chilli dipping sauce was spicy and fresh. My partner's paté married the traditional pork-and-apple combination with an inventive Calvados twist - there was not even the chance for me to try it, as he relished each mouthful. The Genting Club chefs carefully select quality British meat for their menus and their careful sourcing shone through in the 28-day-matured rump steak. The steak was cooked perfectly medium-rare, as requested, and was juicy and flavoursome. Served with grilled tomato, mushroom and a generous portion of chunky chips, it made for a hearty meal. Across the table, seared sea bass arrived delicately flavoured with chilli and coriander butter and served on crushed new potatoes. Also boasting live entertainment every Saturday night from 10pm to 1am, this is a restaurant that deserves a visit
