The Shoulder of Mutton is a traditional country pub that ticks all the boxes. Inside, an open fire, low-hanging beams and exposed brickwork create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, while the gorgeous cottage garden, sunny patio and light and airy conservatory are perfect for a spot of al fresco dining. Owners Wendy and Alan ensure every guest is treated like part of the family. It’s this personalised touch, alongside Alan’s culinary flair, that has helped Shoulder of Mutton garner much recognition, including being named one the top ten best pubs to visit in Berkshire by Berkshire Life.

On the menu you’ll find a mixture of British pub classics as well a selection of unique and flavoursome dishes. To start, treat yourself to a crispy poached free-range egg served on a bed of fresh crabmeat salad, finished with homemade lemon and dill tartare. When it comes to the main course, you must try the signature dish – shoulder of mutton, slow-roasted for seven hours with rosemary, red peppers, onions and red wine. Alternatively, opt for the decadent seafood lasagne or succulent Gressingham duck breast. On Sundays the pub offers a spectacular roast. Each prime cut of meat is marinated and cooked to perfection for maximum tenderness and flavour. What’s more, Shoulder of Mutton can cater for private functions including wedding receptions, birthdays, funeral receptions and anniversaries.
