Dating back to 1620, The Lamb at Chalgrove is an establishment that has become engrained in the village's history and landscape. With its low, exposed beams, a stone fireplace built for baking bread, and a large bar area complete with sofas to sink into, newspapers to peruse and a range of real and craft ales to enjoy, this is a very comfortable place to come to relax.

You'll undoubtedly receive a genuinely warm welcome from landlords Vicki and Steve, who relish the opportunity of bringing new energy and ideas into such a lovely place. Exciting menu choices that you wouldn't normally expect to find from such a place have been introduced, one of which was my husband's main course of Sri Lankan beef with jasmine rice. It was a delicate and authentically cooked dish, so very different to the high street curries we are used to eating, and all the better for it.

I had begun my meal with a stunning starter of pan-fried scallops and ricotta ravioli with ginger and lemongrass before moving on to a lovely spinach and maple bacon salad with a Dijon mustard and bacon dressing. My final course of banoffee pie with coconut sauce - heaven on a plate - was an enormous portion of unashamed sweetness that helped to conjure Caribbean memories.

Do make the time to visit this wonderful find - it's not surprising that customers keep coming back
