Church Close, New Romney, TN28 8AR
Tucked away down a quiet lane, The Coach House Coffee Shop is a must for visitors to New Romney and locals alike. Established five years ago by Peter Butterworth and his wife, this family-run business has gone from strength to strength. The main menus encompass the likes of homemade pies, salads and ploughman's, fresh and toasted sandwiches, oven-baked potatoes, stone-baked pizzas and more. My choice of steak, mushroom and ale pie was the best I've ever tasted. Served with peas, carrots and delicious new potatoes with homemade gravy, it was an absolute masterpiece. Tempted by the new additions to the menu of Thai, Indian and Indonesian curries, my companion opted for the Indonesian vegetable curry, served over rice with prawn crackers and sweet chilli dip.

For dessert I plumped for one of my all-time favourites - syrup sponge pudding with custard - while my companion chose the homemade carrot cake. Local homemade cakes and tray bakes, bread from Rye Bakery and outside catering all add to the comprehensive service offered at this coffee shop.

Music evenings from 4pm to 6pm are on the cards for winter afternoons, meaning guests can dine whilst enjoying some toe-tapping beats. In the festive season, Christmas parties are bookable through November and December at £23 with a bring-your-own wine policy (corkage £3). With 48 covers inside, a fantastic menu, adjacent parking, great tea and an Italian coffee machine, this unlicensed gem ticks all the boxes.
