Chinese and East Asian
Authentic Thai food should be a feast for the eyes as well as the tastebuds, and Montien Cuisine certainly delivers on both counts. Situated along the main stretch of central Sevenoaks and just a short stroll from the main station, Montien Cuisine has maintained a great reputation for over 17 years for attentive service and fine food in generous portions.
The menu caters for all palates and includes familiar dishes alongside a few surprises. Our mixed sharing starter, tagra montien thong, consisted of a tasty selection of chicken satay skewers, battered prawns, crispy spring rolls and crunchy prawn toast alongside vibrant, homemade sauces – a particularly moreish arjard sauce made from syrup, vinegar, shallots, cucumber and carrot was unforgettable. For mains, we chose two signature dishes that came highly recommended. The delicious green chicken curry, which can be ordered in degrees of spiciness to suit your taste, was a robust and fiery choice. The pad Thai gai, a superb noodle dish with chicken and prawns, was full of various textures and complementary flavours. We also enjoyed a mild yet delicious panang curry, and accompaniments of coconut rice and mixed vegetables.
From a choice of traditional Thai desserts we tried tord kao mao, marvelously light battered bananas, and khanom mor gaeng – traditional oven-baked soy bean custard sweetened with coconut milk. These provided a wonderful finale, reaffirming that Montien Cuisine is a restaurant that’s well worth visiting.
