With a cheery voice and the flashing of a welcoming smile, the waiting staff at 39 Prime create an inviting reception into this fantastic restaurant. Damask decor, with a black and white theme, topped with an opulent glass chandelier, create a rather glamorous ambience.

With a menu specialising in fine steaks said to 'melt in your mouth' and a wine list that commands serious attention, boasting a selection of quality Champagne and lavish wine varieties, 39 Prime left us spoilt for choice. After selecting our dishes, recommendations from the waiter saw us with a bottle of Moulin a Vent Caves de Fleurie. Generous rounded tannins and clean fruit flavours seized the palate and perfectly complemented the red meat dishes we were served.

A salad of tempura scallops featured crisp and plump seafood, further accentuated by a lively sweet and sour chilli jam. The seared king prawns on prawn toast with peanut satay, topped with crispy seaweed, were a perfect contrast of textures and flavours. The mains were flawlessly executed, bountiful and a vivid demonstration of remarkable culinary expertise. The marinated rump of lamb, thinly sliced, tender and lean, nestled on a bed of roasted Provencal vegetables, was to die for, topped with slithers of crispy roast parsnip and served with a divine tomato pesto and mint yoghurt. A side of creamy potato gratin was a perfect accompaniment. The 12oz sirloin steak was exactly as described; cooked to perfection, medium rare and so succulent it literally dissolved on the tongue. Served with chunky chips, sautéed French beans and a delectable Béarnaise sauce, the steak certainly lived up to expectation.

A chocolate pannacotta with strawberry compote, and an apple and amaretto crumble with apple sorbet and creme anglaise, were out of this world. This restaurant is simply prime by name and prime by nature. Pre or post-dinner drinks can be enjoyed in the conjoining JJ Whispers nightclub, offering tempting cocktails and Champagne in exclusive surroundings. A great night from start to finish.
